13 environmental organisations and residents' groups challenge Brussels Airport's operating permit

13 environmental organisations and residents' associations are lodging an appeal against the operating permit that has been granted to the company that operates Brussels Airport at Zaventem in Flemish Brabant. They report this in a press release.

Published:

According to the organisations, the conditions imposed in the permit are woefully inadequate to protect the health of local residents and to reduce the impact of the airport on the climate and the environment.

In addition to this, the organisations also complain that the Environmental Impact Report on the basis of which the permit was issued only assumes a maximum growth scenario and does not examine alternatives, despite it being legally bound to do so.

The 13 organisation challenging the permit are Bond Beter Leefmilieu Vlaanderen, Dryade vzw, Climaxi vzw, Grandparents for the Climate, BOREAS vzw, Sterrebeek 2000 vzw, AWACSS vzw, Solidair Tervuren Overijse vzw, Milieusteunpunt Huldenberg vzw, Wake Up Kraainem vzw, BUTV vzw, Natuurpunt Oost-Brabant and Natuurpunt Noord West-Brabant.
