The man that was arrested on Tuesday after two people were found dead at a house in the Brussels municipality of Sint-Jans-Molenbeek handed himself into the police. The man told police officers that he had killed the 63-year-old man and the 55-year-old woman at the house on the Henri Hollevoetlaan. The Brussels public prosecutors’ office reports that the 34-year-old suspect will be appear before an examining magistrate later today.
The public prosecutor’s office spokeswoman Yasmina Vanoverschelde told journalists that “On 14 May at around 3pm a man went to a police station in the Brussels North local police area to report that he had stabbed someone in the Henri Hollevoetlaan in Molenbeek. Officers from the Brussels West Local Police Service went to the house straight away, where they found the bodies of two victims, a 55-year-old woman and a 63-year-old man. Paramedics and the emergency services also attended the scene but were unable to save either victim”.
Cordoned off
The house has been cordoned off and the Brussels prosecutor’s office has since appointed an examining magistrate to lead a manslaughter investigation. Forensics officers have attended the scene to gather evidence.
"The early stages of the investigation indicate that this was a domestic incident. It is still unclear what exactly happened. The investigation to ascertain this is still ongoing”.
Several media sources claim that the victims are a local artist and his ex-wife. The suspect is reported to be a man with psychiatric issues that is residing in Belgium illegally. He is reported to have been living at the house because his two victims wished to help him.
