8 people have been taken to hospital with minor injuries after a tram derailed in the Antwerp district of Deurne on Friday morning. The derailment happened after a collision between the tram and a lorry on the De Gryspeerstraat, near to the Rix Cultural Centre. The derailment resulted in severe disruption to traffic in the area.
The exact circumstances surrounding the accident are still unclear.
8 people that were aboard the tram, including the driver, were slightly injured and they were taken to hospital for treatment. A further 4 tram passengers were advised to visit their GP if the pain resulting from their injuries persisted.
The accident resulted in major traffic disruption in the area. The street where the derailment took place was closed in both directions and there is disruption to tram services on line 5.
