In Wommelgem (Antwerp Province), hikers found a locked pink suitcase containing a pregnant cat. The eye-catching suitcase had been dumped in a field, attracting the attention of passers-by. When they opened the case, they found the distressed animal. The not-for-profit organisation Zwerfkat (Stray Cat) is now looking after the poor creature that had not been equipped with a microchip betraying the owner’s identity.
Zwerfkat raised the alarm following the discovery of a pregnant cat dumped in a suitcase in a field in Wommelgem. Walkers spotted the striking pink suitcase and when they opened it, they found the cat.
The cat was neither chipped nor sterilised, as is mandatory. The identity of the owner has yet to be established. The cat has now been named Mieke. Zwerfkat is pretty indignant about the find. The charity is appealing for people not to just dump pets when there are problems, but to bring them to an animal shelter.
