According to legend, Saint Veron was a German prince, who lived in the ninth century. He chose the simple life of a farmhand in Lembeek (Halle – Flemish Brabant). Here he is honoured every year on Easter Monday when the annual parade involving various groups kitted out in old military uniforms takes place. Participants walk 18 kilometres, stopping along the way for a prayer or a glass of Flemish vodka.
According to tradition people pray to St Veron to heal headache and rheumatism. “We take a broader view” explains one participant. “Worshiping our relic brings happiness for an entire year”.
