The Judicial Authorities in Brussels have launched an investigation after a human skull was discovered in a park in the municipality of Vorst. The skull was found in the Duden Park, a large park that separates Lower and Upper Vorst. A DNA test will be used to try and identify the skull.
Officers from the Brussels South Local Police Service found the skull in bushes while they were out on patrol in the park last Saturday. The area where the skull was discovered was cordoned off and the Judicial Authorities were informed.
The Brussels Public Prosecutors’ Office’s spokesman Martin François told journalists that “It is a human skull. A pathologist attended the scene, but concluded that there is no indication that a third party was involved in the person’s death. An investigation is ongoing to identify the victim and to ascertain the cause of death. To this end methods including DNA-analysis will be used. This will take a couple of weeks”.
The Judicial Authorities say that no other body parts were found in the park and it is as yet unclear how the skull came to be there.
