The Belgian Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rain in several areas in coming days. The yellow code applies in the provinces of Liège and Limburg. The emergency helpline 1722 to report damage and seek help when there is no threat to life is active.
Abundant rain is forecast until Tuesday in some areas. Last night the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for the provinces of Limburg and Liège.
"Over a 24-hour period, over 25 to 30 litres per square metre of rain may be recorded in parts of the provinces of Liège and Limburg," the Met Office says. In the province of Liège, the amount of rain may even reach 35 to 40 litres per square metre.
Emergency number 1722 activated
To ease pressure on the emergency services, the interior ministry activated the 1722 helpline. People who have suffered storm or water damage requiring assistance from the fire brigade can submit a request via the e-desk. According to the emergency services, this method is the fastest way of seeking help when there is no threat to life.
Only for potentially life-threatening situations should the emergency number 112 be called.
