Major disruption to public transport in Brussels as unions take action to mark International Women’s Day
Those taking part in the action are demanding greater respect for women and the work they do. With some public transport workers in the capital taking part in the action services on two of the four metro lines and numerous tram and bus routes are not running. MIVB’s An Van hamme told VRT News that “Metro lines 1 and 5 and around half of the tram routes are running”
“At 7am buses were running on a quarter of our routes, but it is possible that more routes will be served as the morning progresses. We are concentrating on the most frequently used routes in order to enable as many people as possible to reach their destination.
MIVB advises passengers to look at its app or visit its website www.mivb.brussels to check whether the service they wish to use is running.
Ms Van hamme added “We are not expecting the level of disruption to increase, but it could be the case that protest actions in town might lead to some services being diverted”.
