Flemish justice minister Zuhal Demir (nationalist/N-VA) has filed a complaint with the police after she received a dick pic, a photograph of the male member usually sent to somebody by phone. Ms Demir received the snap via her LinkedIn page. LinkedIn is an online social network for professionals. Ms Demir says that by filing a complaint she wants to put an end to such practices.
Flemish minister Zuhal Demir files complaint after receiving LinkedIn dick pic
"Dick pics in your inbox. Unfortunately women and even underage girls encounter this kind of unwanted and transgressive behaviour too often," Zuhal Demir writes on X.
The cabinet minister contacted the public prosecutor's office, which advised her to file a complaint with the police in her district. "They will try to find out who sent the dick pic," Ms Demir says.
Photos of penises are being sent with some regularity in Belgium. More than half the girls and young women aged between 15 and 25 have received a dick pic according to a study on online sexual violence commissioned by former equal opportunities secretary Sarah Schlitz (Francophone green/Ecolo).
"I want to make it clear that this behaviour is unacceptable" says Minister Demir, who also doubles as the Flemish environment, energy and tourism minister . "We should not consider this normal behaviour."
