Dutch police detain two new suspects in the case of the murder of an 11-year-old Antwerp girl
On 9 January 2023 armed assailants shot at the garage door of a house in the Nieuwdreef in Merksem. It is believed that the attack was part of a drugs feud.
Behind the garage door a family was eating their evening meal. 11-year-old Firdaous was killed by one of the bullets. Her 58-year-old father and her two sisters aged 13 and 18 were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Suspects
Two weeks ago two suspects, a 53-year-old woman and a 21 year-old man, were detained. The woman’s DNA was discovered on one of the five bullet cases found at the scene. The female suspect remains in custody. The male suspect was released on Monday
In a statement, the Antwerp Judicial Authorities say that during an investigation a link has emerged with the Netherlands. On Tuesday evening properties were searched in Rotterdam, Amsterdam and Breda. Two people were detained, a 24-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man. The examining magistrate leading the case has asked Dutch prosecutors to transfer the suspects to Belgium. What their link is to the shooting is still unclear.
