The high council for justice has revealed that a candidate taking part in the magistrates' exam to become a Belgian judge committed fraud. The matter came to light after the Ghent prosecutor general handed in a dossier. One of the members of the examination committee had given a candidate the exam questions ahead of the test. Both candidate and judge have admitted the fraud. The judge, who is a member of the examination commission, is also a member of the high council for justice. He has now resigned from that position. In a communique the council speaks of the shock that this has come to light. A new exam to select the country’s future judges will now have to be organised.
