More than 10 flights cancelled on the 3rd day of the strike at Brussels Airlines

Brussels Airlines say that more than 10 flights have been cancelled today (Friday) due to strike action by cabin crew. Today is the last day of a three-day strike by members of the Christian trade union ACV Puls/CNE. The strike has come about to put pressure on the airline’s management to revoke a pay cut that was implemented during the coronavirus pandemic and also in protest at what cabin crew see as an excessive workload.

Flight attendants have long been dissatisfied with their pay and the pressure of work that they are under. The three-day strike began on Wednesday. Only members of the Christian union (ACV Puls/ CNE) have gone out on strike. Members of the socialist and liberal trade unions have not called their members out on strike.

On what is the third and final day of the strike Brussels Airlines announced this morning that around a dozen flights have been cancelled. These include flights from Brussels to Munich, Vienna, Vilnius and Nice. Incoming flights from Conakry (via Dakar), Lomé (via Accra), New York, Birmingham, Oslo, Vienna and Munich.

"As a majority of the unions and cabin crew are not on strike, we will once again be able to operate 80% of our flights." Brussels Airlines said in a statement released on Thursday evening.

Fresh talks aimed at resolving the dispute are planned for next week.
