Cocaine found in former VRT radio presenter’s locker

The Former VRT radio presenter Sven Pichal is now not only suspected of sexual offences. The Antwerp public prosecutor's office has also opened an investigation into drug offences too. During a search carried out at the VRT’s Broadcasting Centre a small quantity of cocaine was found in Sven Pichal’s locker. The search was carried out last summer as part of the ongoing investigation into the possession and distribution of child abuse images by the former presenter.

One of Sven Pichal’s bail conditions is that he is not allowed to use alcohol or drugs. The investigation into Sven Pichal’s alleged drug use also found that he had allegedly ordered designer drugs in the Netherlands and sometimes even had them delivered to the VRT.

The drug allegedly ordered by Sven Pichal was 3MMC (or a variant there off). 3MMC was only banned very recently in the Netherlands. However, it was illegal here in Belgium at the time Sven Pichal allegedly ordered it.

Lawyers confirm reports are true

In a statement Sven Pichal's lawyers, Walter Damen and Davina Simons confirm that the reports are true.

"From the outset Mr Pichal has cooperated with the investigation. One of the elements was the drug issue which is being followed up. Sven strictly adheres to his bail conditions and his drug checks have all been negative”.

The lawyers added that Sven Pichal is undergoing intense counselling and that this is going well. They also say that drugs are never the solution to problems and that it is regrettable that the confidentiality of the investigation has been violated.
