The Christian trade union ACV Puls/CNE has said that its members will go ahead will a three-day strike that is to start on Wednesday 28 February. Talks to avert the strike broke down without agreement.
Brussels Airlines cabin crew to strike from Wednesday
Last week ACV Puls/CNE announced that its members that work for Brussels Airlines as cabine crew intended to take strike action as part of their ongoing dispute with management over wages and pressure of work. During the coronavirus crisis cabin crew at the airline took a wage cut and agreed to shorter rest periods in an effort to help the airline through what was a very difficult period for aviation the world over.
ACV Puls’ Jolinde Defieuw told journalists that “In other words they are working harder for lower wages and this can’t continue”
Now Brussels Airlines' financial position has improved its cabin crew want what they see as their share of the cake.
CNE’s Didier Lebbe confirms that Tuesday’s talks fail to find a resolution to the conflict and that a strike was “unavoidable”. Mr Lebbe demands written proposals from management that can be put before the airline’s staff. The socialist and liberal trade unions say that they will await the result of a new round of talks on Wednesday morning before deciding whether they will call on their members to join the strike.
“Some flights will be cancelled”
Brussels airline’s spokesman Nico Cardone told journalists that it is likely that some flights will be cancelled as a result of the strike. However, it is still unclear how much disruption there will be.
