Farmers’ organisations have today taken their protests and tractors to Brussels as EU farm ministers gather. Police have asked commuters not to travel to the capital by car today and to use public transport.
Metro stations Maalbeek and Schuman are closed by order of the police. There is disruption to MIVB bus services with some services terminating early along their route. The transport company urges people to use metro and pre-metro services rather than buses or overground trams.
Tractors entering Brussels have caused widespread disruption to traffic. There are delays of up to 2 hours on the outer orbital ring road at Halle. Expect delays on the approach to Brussels on the E40 originating in Liege.
The inner-city orbital Kleine Ring too is hit with disruption at Madou and also on the Leuvensesteenweg.
Hundreds of tractors are expected to occupy Brussels historic market square. The first vehicles have arrived.
Also in the Wetstraat farmers have arrived and many more are converging on the European District.
Farmers are also on the Belliardstraat.
