On Monday 26 February farmers are once again set to descend on Brussels to protest as European Agriculture Ministers gather in the capital for a summit meeting. The Brussels public transport company MIVB expects there to be considerable disruption to bus and overground trams services along the route of the farmers’ demonstration. MIVB is advising passengers to use the metro or underground tram (also known as “premetro”) services.

The farmers are due to gather on the Schuman Square in the heart of Brussels’ European District at 11am on Monday. They will enter the capital with several hundred tractors along the Bergensesteenweg in the southwest, the Tervurenlaan in the east and the Leuvensesteenweg in the northeast of the capital. They will then use the Brussels Inner Ring Road and the Wetstraat to reach the Schuman Square. Traffic along all these routes will be severely disrupted.
MIVB expects severe disruption to services on tram routes 7, 25, 39, 44, 62, 81, 92 and 93 and on bus routes 12 (Airport Line), 21, 27, 29, 34, 38, 46, 48, 49, 50, 52, 54, 56, 60, 61, 63, 64, 65, 66, 71, 74, 75, 79, 80 and 95.
The MIVB spokesman Guy Sablon told journalists that "We advise passengers to use the metro and premetro services. They travel underground and aren’t impacted by traffic issues. Those that wish to keep up to date with developments can best check the real-time information provided at our stops and stations or check our website or app”.
