Figures from Belgium’s federal police show that a quarter of all enquiries conducted by judicial police are drug-related. All told, police investigations in 2023 resulted in prisoners being put behind bars for 4,700 years. Half of all sentences are drug-related. The police service employed over 50,000 people last year. That too is a record.
