Scooterist fights for his life after car knocks him down on cycle path
The accident happened on Wednesday evening. The scooterist experienced a nasty fall and received first aid at the scene before being rushed to hospital.
How exactly the accident happened is not yet clear. The scooterist was driving on the cycle path. It’s possible the car driver did not notice the scooter or noticed it too late. The motorist tested negative for alcohol and provided a clean drug test.
Mayor Rik Verwaest speaks of a painful situation given plans for the creation of a safer cycle path are advanced. The cyclists’ association believes action can be taken to make the existing road infrastructure safer even before the renovation of local roads, but the roads agency is opposed to further experimentation now that major roadworks are already underway in the neighbourhood.
