Beware of quishing!

Last year, the Belgian economy ministry received nearly 600 reports of people falling victim to phishing. That’s a form of fraud that involves getting people to hit on a link in an email or text and then providing sensitive personal or financial information that allows the conmen to embezzle cash. The number of people affected by phishing last year is only half as many as in 2022, but conmen continually find new ways of defrauding people. There is now quishing.  It’s a new phenomenon of phishing in which scammers use a fake QR code to steal data or money. Last year, on average, those duped lost around 4,000 euros each.
