A judge in Mechelen (Antwerp) has sentenced a 41-year-old to six years in jail on charges relating to serious in-family violence. The culprit abused his partner, hit her and treated her like a sex slave.
The man locked up his girlfriend and prevented her from contacting her family. The women’s family had been deeply concerned for her well-being but the matter only came to light when the woman made it to a police station last summer. When police attended the family home, they discovered the defendant high on drugs. For years he had been addicted to heroin.
The woman told police that she had been forced into sexual acts on a daily basis and had been raped with the same regularity. The woman was banned from meeting up with her parents and children.
The defendant argued that the actions had formed part of a roll game, that the woman was addicted to sex and had administered testosterone to him.
In his ruling the judge said the man was entirely focused on satisfying his lusts. In addition to a 6-year jail term the man also has to pay damages worth 30,000 euros.
