A monument honouring Belgo-British industrialist John Cockerill on the Luxemburgplein in Brussels has been vandalised. The statue of the mechanic Beaufort, one of four workers depicted, has been pulled off its pedestal. The statue was discarded on the ground, while in the European District fires were lit nearby. Angry farmers have replaced the statue by a doll of their own.
