The environment officer of the Province of Flemish Brabant has given a negative recommendation in connection with the possible opening of a McDonald's fast-food restaurant in Tervuren (Flemish Brabant). The Not-in-Tervuren action committee has welcomed the news, though the door for the restaurant is still open.
It is not yet certain whether a McDonald's will be able to open on the N3 in Tervuren. The provincial environment officer has advised against the restaurant. A possible increase in car traffic at busy times could have a negative impact for cyclists, pedestrians and the environment the official writes. The adjustments that have been made to the previous application, dating from 2020, are insufficient.
"This opinion leaves us with a good feeling," says Pol Maclaine Pont of the ‘Not-in-Tervuren’ action committee. "It is clear that the province's planning department has done a very thorough investigation and they came up with many different reasons why the application should be rejected."
For the action committee, the mobility issue was also the argument that weighed most heavily. "After all, there are four schools nearby. We are highly satisfied with this negative recommendation and we expect the authorities to follow it," Pol Maclaine Pont adds.
The dossier will soon require a decision from the provincial executive of Flemish Brabant.
