Storm Isha brought strong winds to Belgium overnight with a yellow weather warning that applies until this afternoon. Begium has experienced gusts of up to 90km/h and the storm that is heading northwards has still not left the country.
“After the cold snap wind directions have changed bringing a series of depressions our way” explains VRT weatherman Bram Verbruggen. More depressions in the course of the week will bring rain and a lot of wind.
Here, the situation isn’t as bad as in Ireland or the UK, but Storm Isha brought cloud, rain and especially gusty conditions. Measures have been taken across the country to avoid damage and injury. In Brussels all parks and forests were closed. Parks should reopen in the course of the afternoon weather permitting. Wind speeds are set to ease, but gusts of up to 60km/h remain possible.
In the seaside resort of Ostend (West Flanders) the dikes near the harbour are closed to the public. The pier too is closed. Here gusts of over 90km/h are possible. The Ostend city authorities are urging residents and visitors to avoid unnecessary trips outside and to stay indoors as much as during the storm.
