Ticket office opening hours to be cut at more than 50 Belgian stations from March

From 1 March the opening hours of the ticket offices at 54 railway stations will reduced. The Belgian rail company NMBS says that it has decided to cut ticket office opening hours due to a fall in demand that has come about due to a big increase in the number of passengers buying their rail tickets online.

Published:

Currently only around 10% of rail tickets are sold over the counter. In 2015 this was still 50%. The rail company is keen to stress the no stations will close as a result of the changes. Nevertheless, at 33 stations passengers will no longer be able to purchase a ticket over the counter at the weekend. In 25 stations the ticket office will only be open in the mornings from 1 March.

The stations at (for example) Aalter, Arlon, Braine-L’Alleud, Nivelles, Louvain-la-Neuve, De Panne, Diest, Geel, Genk, Ieper, Libramont, Marloie, Sint-Truiden, Welkenraedt, Liège Saint-Lambert, Huy, Waremme, Waregem, Denderleeuw, Halle, Oudenaarde, Tienen, Aalst, Aarschot, Denderleeuw, Dendermonde, Hasselt, Herentals, Lier, Mol, Oudenaarde, Tienen, Turnhout and Zottegem will all see their ticket office opening cut.

Ticket vending machines are available at all Belgian railway stations and stops.
