Fire-fighters tackled a blaze at an aparthotel in Elsene (Brussels) this morning. The most likely cause of the fire is thought to be a mobile phone charger that had overheated.
Fortunately nobody was injured in the blaze in a studio apartment on the 3rd floor. Fire-fighters tackled the fire and quickly gained control of the blaze preventing it from spreading to communal areas. The woman staying in the studio apartment managed to get to safety of her own accord, but the premises are gutted.
Fire-fighters say the fire was started accidentally. A mobile phone charger had been left on a pile of clothes and is thought to have overheated. The Brussels fire service says invest in good equipment and use the charger provided with the handset. Do not use a charger at night or when you are not at home. Place the handset on a hard, non-inflammable surface in a location that is equipped with a smoke detector.
