Passengers using the railway station adjacent to the European Parliament will no longer be able to buy a ticket over the counter at weekends from 1 March. From the end of next month, the ticket offices at Brussels-Luxembourg and Etterbeek stations will only be open on weekends. Those wishing to purchase a ticket will have to either use a ticket vending machine or purchase one via the Belgian rail company NMBS’ app.

Ticket office at Brussels-Luxembourg station to close at weekends from 1 March

NMBS says that it has taken the decision to reduce ticket office opening hours at the stations due to a big increase in the number of passengers buying their tickets online.
“Currently almost 90% of all tickets are purchased from ticket vending machines or via the NMBS website or app and just 10% from the ticket office”.
In 2015 around half of all tickets were still bought over the counter. In recent years it has become much easier to buy tickets online. New season tickets can also be purchased online.
