Business magazine Trends has awarded its annual prize for inspiring business leadership to Lieve Mostrey.
The CEO of financial institution Euroclear has been named as Flanders’ Manager of the Year by business magazine Trends. Lieve Mostrey was appointed CEO in 2017 and recently announced that she will step down from the role.
In an interview with Trends, 63-year-old Mostrey said her philosophy was to listen to as many opinions and ideas as possible. “That might make the decision-making process more complex, but it also makes it richer and stronger,” she said. “I try to communicate as transparently as possible, so that people better understand the decisions.”
Mostrey studied civil engineering at Leuven University before embarking on a career in finance. She was COO at Fortis Bank before joining Euroclear, which employs 5,000 people and provides financial market infrastructure services.
Role model
“I’d always thought that women would naturally progress to top positions in the financial sector, but I’ve had to change that opinion,” she told Trends.
“The breakthrough I expected did not happen. That’s why, as a manager, I have tried to give other women a chance. I’m proud of that, but at the same time I think it’s a shame that I still have to be a role model in 2024.”
The Manager of the Year award is given by Trends every year to an inspiring business leader. Mostrey – who was nominated for the third time – received the prize at a ceremony at Brussels Expo on Wednesday. She succeeds last year’s winner, Rika Coppens of House of HR.
Trends also awards a prize to a Francophone manager, which this year was won by Michaël Labro of macaron producer PMSweet. At 30, he is the youngest ever recipient of the award.
