Belgium has the lowest inflation in the Eurozone
Eurostat’s figures show that last month inflation in the Eurozone had risen by 0.5 percentage points. This followed falls in the annual inflation rate during the previous months. In October inflation in the Eurozone stood at 2.9% and in September annual inflation stood at 4.3%. The 2.9% figures for December 2023 are a far cry from the 9.2% annual inflation rate in December 2022.
The lowest annual rates in the Eurozone were observed in Belgium (0.5%, compared with -0.8% in November and 10.2% in December 2002) and Italy (0.5%), followed by Latvia (0.9%) and the Netherlands (1.0%). The highest rates were recorded in Slovakia (6.6%), Austria (5.4%) and Croatia (5.4%).
The figure of 2.9% annual inflation for the Eurozone is in line with the forecasts of analysts polled by Bloomberg and seems to confirm the view of the European Central Bank that the economy is on the right track.
