One person has been killed after they were run over by a car while trying to cross over the A12 motorway at Willebroek in Antwerp Province. The fatal accident happened just outside the Carré discotheque. News of the accident first appeared on the website of the daily ‘Het Laatste Nieuws’ and has since been confirmed by the Federal Police.

At 8:08 am on Monday the police received a call telling them that there had been an accident on the A12 at Willebroek. Outside the Carré discotheque someone had tried to cross over the motorway on foot.
Although a motorist in a car that was driving by at the time swerved to try and avoid hitting the pedestrian, they were unable to do so. The person that was crossing the motorway was run over and killed.
The two people that were in the car suffered shock but did not sustain any injuries in the accident. The accident led to the closure of two lanes on the Antwerp bound carriageway of the A12 at Willebroek on Monday morning.
