For the 16th News Year’s Day in succession members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community have been out and about clearing up litter from streets and parks in several towns and municipalities in Limburg Province. Around 80 members of the group have been clearing up litter in Herk-de-Stad, Beringen, Genk, Hasselt, Alken and Sint-Truiden.
Once again dozens of members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community were up at the crack of dawn on New Year’s Day to get to work cleaning up the streets of 6 Limburg towns and municipalities. Straight after morning prayers at 6am they started clearing some of the rubbish that had built up during the festive season. Members of the group in other provinces too were busy doing their bit for the wider community and for the environment.
Sadagat Rana told VRT News that "Our community’s motto is ‘love everyone, hate no one’. Throughout the year we organize activities to make a positive contribution to society and to show love for the country in which we live. This year is the 16th time that we have gone out clearing litter on New Year’s Day morning. Every year we receive happy reactions from people we meet on the street, even if most of them are surprised that we are up so early. The amount of litter on the streets hasn’t been too bad the last few years. But that won’t stop us from carrying on this tradition”.
