Christmas Day will be more of a struggle with your brolly than a day of snow

Christmas Day is wet and windy not white

No white Christmas yet again this year, but a grey and rainy day with highs around 12 degrees. High winds also stay with us with gusts up to 60 km/h inland and up to 65 km/h on the coast. The emergency number 1722 has been activated for people who experience storm or water damage and want assistance from the fire brigade. "We are vigilant, but at the moment there is no flooding in Belgium yet" the fire service says.

Santa had to face a lot of wind today. A moderate to fairly strong south-westerly is blowing with gusts up to 60 km/h inland and up to 65 km/h on the Flemish coast. Temperatures remain mild at 12 degrees Celsius.

Snow is not expected, but rather a lot of rain. Today remains cloudy with periods of light to moderate rain.

A rain zone also passes through the country during the night. During the second part of the night, it will become mostly dry starting from the coast and clearer weather will gradually appear. Lows between 6 and 10 degrees Celsius.

Emergency number 1722 activated

The home affairs ministry has activated the 1722 emergency number. This means that anyone who has storm or water damage and requires assistance from the fire brigade can submit a request via the e-counter www.1722.be or by dialling the phone number 1722. The emergency number 112 should only be used when there is possibly a threat to life.

Next few days mild and changeable with rain at times

Boxing Day morning will be drier. A weak rain front will soon leave the country. After that, it will be mostly dry with some clear spells, but over the southeast, some light rain or drizzle will remain at first. Highs between 6 and 10 degrees with a mostly moderate westerly wind.

Wednesday will first be cloudy with periods of rain. During the day, it will become mostly dry with clear skies appearing towards the evening. It will again be mild with highs rising to 10 to 11 degrees in many places, with moderate to fairly strong southerly winds and gusts up to 60 km/h.
