The Brussels public transport company MIVB will be offering its bus, tram and metro services free of charge to allow revellers to get to and from their destinations safely on New Year’s Eve. From midnight until 5:30am the entire MIVB network will be available for free to all that wish to use it. Outside Brussels the Flemish public transport company De Lijn’s services will be free in 68 towns and cities across Flanders.
Free public transport on New Year’s Eve
In the capital the Noctis night bus service and tram route 81 will be running through the night until 5:30am on New Year’s Day. Each route will run one bus or tram in each direction every 15 or 20 minutes. In addition to the Noctis busses and Tram 81 all tram and metro routes will continue operating until 2:30am. This year for the first time some bus routes will also continue running later than usual on New Year’s Eve too.
Fireworks
This year, the fireworks will be set off from the Academia Palace, near the to Paleizenplein. With streets in the area closed to traffic some disruption to public transport is inevitable. From 8pm, tram routes 92 and 93 will not run between Kruidtuin and Louiza. Passengers can use metro lines 2 and 6 between these two stops. Some bus routes will also be diverted or shortened.
