Gold will be the Flemings’ favourite investment in 2024

More than a third of the private investors surveyed expect an increase in returns on their investments during the coming months. The stock market has recovered considerably during the past month. This is evident from ING’s monthly survey of investors that shows optimism at its second highest level this year.
Ahead of the new year 21% of those Belgians surveyed say that they expect real estate to perform best next year. That is down significantly on the 29% that thought so a year ago. Meanwhile, at 19% (+6%), the percentage of private investors expect gold to yield the highest returns in 2024 is up significantly. Among the Flemings that took part in the survey gold even came out on top as the investment option of choice for the coming year.
Shares are the preferred investment option among 17% of the Belgians surveyed. Meanwhile, the popularity of bonds is up 5% to 12%. For longer term investments of three years or more Belgians see the most potential in utilities and ICT. Meanwhile, interest for investments in the pharmaceutical industry that peaked during the coronavirus pandemic, is steadily waning.
