Flemish households will on average pay at least 45 euros more for energy next year. Energy watchdog VREG blames the 8% hike in distribution network tariffs planned for next year.
Distribution network tariffs are the fees paid for transporting electricity and natural gas to your home. They are calculated on the basis of consumption and the region where you live. Distribution network tariffs make up only part of the total energy bill, in addition to the basic price of electricity and/or natural gas, VAT and other levies.
On average, distribution network tariffs will rise 8 per cent next year. For an average household, this amounts to 27 euros more on electricity bills and 18 euros more on natural gas bills, says the VREG. Together, in other words, 45 euros a year.
The 8 per cent average increase also masks regional differences. For instance, the increase in network tariffs is highest for customers of Fluvius Antwerp, Fluvius Limburg, Fluvius West and PBE. At other grid operators (Gaselwest, Imewo, Intergem, Iveka, Iverlek and Sibelgas), the increase is smaller.
