A woman was found dead in her car on the E34 express road in Vrasene (East Flanders) yesterday afternoon. She was discovered behind the wheel of her car, which had been on the breakdown lane since the morning. The woman had managed to park her car, but it was only in the afternoon that the emergency services went to explore what exactly was going on. The public prosecutor's office also attended the scene.
It was around 2.30pm on Tuesday afternoon that the emergency services discovered the 53-year-old deceased woman in her car on the hard shoulder. She was driving towards Antwerp.
The car had been parked there since morning as could be seen on camera pictures from the Flemish Traffic Centre. It was thought that the driver had fallen asleep.
As the car was still there in the afternoon, the emergency services were dispatched to see what was going on. They found the deceased woman, who may have died a natural death.
Due to the incident, the slow lane towards Antwerp was closed for quite a while yesterday.
