Brussels local transport company MIVB has warned of significant disruption to its services on Tuesday due to a European trade union demonstration. Unions at MIVB have announced strike action to allow members to take part in the protest.
The MIVB anticipates disruption across its bus, tram and metro network on Tuesday and cannot yet say which services will run. It urges the travelling public to stay informed by consulting its app, the website or information panels at stops.
Services at rail company NMBS and at the Flemish local transport company De Lijn should not be affected by the strike action, though De Lijn buses may be hit by the demo itself.
The European unions are protesting against possible cuts resulting from the reform of the European stability and growth pact that includes budgetary targets.
Demonstrators will set off from the Poelaertplein at 11AM and head for the intersection of the Guldenvlieslaan and the Louisalaan, where they will join the inner Brussels orbital (Kleine Ring) and the Belliardstraat heading for the Jean Reyplein at the heart of the European District.
