Four injured in fresh Brussels shooting including colleague of Swedish Euro MP

Four people were injured in a shooting on Gulden Vlieslaan in Brussels yesterday evening.  One person is fighting for their life. When police teams arrived, the perpetrator or perpetrators were no longer at the scene. The public prosecutor's office reports that the initial indications point to a settling of accounts, not to an act of terrorism.

"Around 7.30pm, we received a report of a shooting on the Gulden Vlieslaan," says police spokesperson Ilse Van de Keere. "Our officers immediately attended the scene and cordoned it off."

One of the victims was reportedly found near the Galerie Toison d'Or, a second at the Apple Store, and a third on the Ridderstraat. One of the injured is a member of staff of Swedish politician and MEP Tomas Tobé. "Terrible, one of our staff has been injured in a shooting in Brussels.  The person involved is receiving care. Their situation is not believed to be critical.  Relatives have been informed" Tobé wrote on X.

"At the current stage of the enquiry, there are no indications that this is an act of terrorism," police spokesman Van de Keere says. This was later confirmed by the prosecutor’s office: "According to the first indications, this is a settling of accounts, not an act of terrorism".

Elsene Mayor Christos Doulkeridis (Francophone green/Ecolo) also confirmed the news that there was no indication that this was an act of terrorism. "It’s very important to say that. We cannot definitively rule it out just yet, but it looks like no terrorism is involved. One possible hypothesis is that it is a settling of accounts among drug traffickers".
