A father is dead and his 11-year-old son is seriously injured after they were run down by a car at an intersection in Diegem (Flemish Brabant) around 7:30AM this morning.

A 57-year-old man was swept along by a car and died on the spot. His 11-year-old son was rushed to hospital in a serious condition. The family are local people.
The father and son were on foot and heading to the boy’s school. First indications show the car was initially at a standstill and then suddenly moved forward. The investigation will have to establish whether the driver executed a manoeuvre or there was a technical fault. The driver is in shock and will be questioned as soon as she is well enough. The man’s wife is receiving specialised victim support from the police.
The prosecutor’s office has appointed a traffic expert to establish the facts and determine what exactly happened.
