A 48-hour rail strike starts at 10pm on Tuesday. On Wednesday and Thursday rail passengers will have to contend will multiple cancellations as the Belgian rail company NMBS operates a minimum service using rail workers that aren’t joining the strike. On Wednesday 6 December only around 60% of services will run.
48-hour rail strike under way
Last month the Christian, socialist and liberal rail unions staged a 48-hour strike. Since then the Christian Trades Union ACV Transcom has withdrawn its strike notice. On Tuesday evening members of the liberal and socialist trade unions will down tools. Both unions say that not enough progress has been made in talks with management since the previous strike in November.
HR Rail that employs the rail workers describes the industrial action as “completely irresponsible and unacceptable for rail passengers”.
Anyone planning to use the railways between 10pm on Tuesday and start of service on Friday is advised to check on the rail company’s website www.nmbs.be or its app to see if their train is running.
On Wednesday 3 out of 5 inter city (IC) trains will be running and 2 out of 5 S and L train stopping services. Most P train services that running only during rush hour won’t be running.
Thursday’s timetable will be announced on Wednesday.
Rail workers are taking strike actions in protest at a number of productivity measures that management wants to introduce.
