West Flemish steel wire producer acquires majority stake in Scottish firm Flintstone Technology

The West Flemish steel wire producer Bekaert has acquired a majority stake in the Scottish company Flintstone Technology. The Dundee-based firm is specialised in materials for the anchoring of wind turbines in off-shore windfarms to the seabed.

In a press statement released on Friday Bekaert said that Flintstons Technology "offers a range of products and services, including connectors and tension systems for the large anchor cables that are used at floating wind farms to anchor the turbines to the seabed”.

The West Flemish steel wire producer expects that "the emerging industry of floating offshore windfarms" will increase demand for Flintstone's products. The connectors and tensioning systems made by the Scottish company will be combined with synthetic cables (MoorLine) manufactured by Bekaert. “As a result of this acquisition customers now have access to one synthetic anchoring solution', the company said.
