So far this year, on at least 50 occasions Brussels fire-fighters faced verbal aggression or violence during fire service operations. To draw attention to the situation three murals have been created in the vicinity of fire stations in the Belgian and Flemish capital. The aim is to draw attention to the fact that aggression is a growing problem and to ask for greater respect for emergency workers. The murals tell the tale of what happened during certain interventions. Emergency workers routinely face verbal aggression in Brussels, but on ten occasions this year the aggression also turned physical. Last week fire-fighters were attacked by individuals who fired fireworks in their direction.
