Israeli ambassador Idit Rosenzweig-Abu has defended her controversial "Dutroux tweet" in which she said Israeli hostages should not be compared to released Palestinian prisoners. "You cannot compare a terrible Hamas criminal with an innocent Israeli hostage," she explained in a vehement reaction to a photo collage in the Flemish left-leaning daily De Morgen.

De Morgen’s photo collage depicting the emotional reunion of released Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners with the caption "Always someone's father, always someone's child" angered Israeli ambassador Idit Rosenzweig-Abu.
According to Ambassador Rosenzweig-Abu, you cannot compare terrible terrorists (men wearing a headband with a Hamas flag) with the innocent victims of terrorists. "What we can answer to this: Marc Dutroux was also someone's child. That does not mean that it is acceptable to compare him to his victims," she posted on X. Later she replaced Marc Dutroux’ name with that of Paris terrorist Salah Abdeslam.
Crooked comparison
"When I wrote that on X I wanted to refer to a criminal. For me, as a non-Belgian, Marc Dutroux is a terrible criminal. Now I understand that for Belgians, Dutroux is more than that. He is a symbol. I am sorry for naming Dutroux. That is why I have replaced the name Dutroux with Salah Abdeslam. You cannot compare a terrible Hamas terrorist with an innocent hostage. That is what happened in De Morgen's collage," Idit Rosenzweig-Abu told VRT.
Idit Rosenzweig-Abu continues to defend the Israeli army's assault on Gaza and deny there is any disproportionate use of force. She compares Hamas to terror group IS.
"After the attacks in Europe, a large coalition went to war against IS. That resulted, among other things, in the total destruction of IS strongholds Mosul and Raqqa in Iraq. Nobody said that was a problem because the world is now a safer place without IS," Ms Rosenzweig-Abu said.
