Taps proving free drinking water at 6 Belgian railway stations

The Belgian rail company NMBS has installed drinking water taps at six of its stations. The taps will enable passengers to fill their flasks up with filtered tap water free of charge. By the end of next year, the railway company intends to offer this service at around 100 of its stations.

In a press release issued on Friday NMBS said that from now on passengers at Bruges, Brussels-Luxembourg, Ghent-Sint-Pieters, Kortrijk, Ostend and Liège-Guillemins stations will be able to fill up their flasks or bottles with drinking water for free. Charleroi-Centraal and Ottignies station in Walloon Brabant will follow in the coming weeks.

NMBS says that once the drinking water tap rollout has been completed around 80% of its customers will have access to free drinking water.

The railway company says the initiative is its way of contributing to reduction of plastic waste.
