Possibility of snow in the Ardennes this weekend

Those of you that are planning to head for the hills and enjoy the stunning scenery of the Ardennes this weekend could well see the first snow to fall in Belgium since last winter. However, the VRT’s weatherwoman Jacotte Brokken says than any snow that does fall will be not stick.

In just one week’s time it will be December and winter is approaching. Temperatures have fallen quite a bit during the past week or so and it feels cooler when we are out. The weekend will start in a similar vein in Flanders and Brussels with bright spells interspersed with regular showers of rain.

In the highest part of the Ardennes snow will fall on Saturday morning and Saturday evening with as much as a few centimetres of snow falling at some locations.

Weatherwoman Jacotte Brokken told VRT News that some sleet already fell today in the High Fens (Liège Province) and that the chance of snow falling there is greater tonight. Temperatures on the High Fens are expected to fall to around freezing on Friday night.

On Saturday temperatures will rise to between 1°C and 2°C on the High Fens and 8°C in the west of the country. Although a couple of centimetres of snow could fall on the High Fens with temperatures expected to reach 2°C it will be too warm for the snow to stick.

Sunday will be mainly cloudy with some showers. These will once again be wintery in upland areas in the Ardennes.
