10 month's imprisonment for Brussels man that defecated in Blankenberge shopping street

The Criminal Court in the West Flemish city of Bruges has sentenced a 62-year-old Brussels man to ten months imprisonment for public indecency. D.D. defecated in public on several shopping streets at the coast. The defendant had initially received a suspended sentence, but broke the conditions of his probation.

Published:

D.D. was caught several times relieving himself on the Kerkstraat in the West Flemish coastal resort of Blankenberge. In addition to defecation, he also pleasured himself in public. For this he was given a 6 month suspended sentence in autumn 2019. The court imposed conditions which if broken would result in him being sent to prison.

In the meantime, however, D.D. struck again in Koksijde, Knokke and De Panne (all West Flanders). He was arrested an Examining Magistrate in Veurne in March 2022 on suspicion of public indecency.

He stood accused of having defecated and urinated right in front of shop windows with the intent of making his acts visible to those that were inside the shops. The Criminal Court of Veurne sentenced him to ten months in prison in May 2022, again with probation. These included the 62-year-old having to undergo counseling for his drink problem.

However, on October 17, 2023, the Public Prosecution Service requested that D.D.’s probation be revoked. He was said to still have no fixed abode and still be drinking too excess. D.D. had been detained several times for having been drunk and disorderly. Given the circumstances, the defence did not oppose D.D.’s probation being revoked.

In those circumstances, the defense did not oppose the revocation of the probationary period.
