Belgium has prepared a package of relief supplies ready to send to the Gaza Strip. In addition to medicines, the package includes equipment used in surgery, but also wheelchairs, crutches and ventilators.
The aid valued at one million euros is being flown out from Ostend-Bruges Airport and will arrive in Egypt in the coming days. Trucks will then take the equipment to Gaza. Egypt still has to give its approval, says international development minister Caroline Gennez:
“We have notified the Egyptian authorities with regard to our offer: medical equipment and medicines for the hospitals in Gaza that are still working, to be shipped via the Rafah crossing. We need the Egyptians to say 'yes' and then the flight can go head”.
