King Albert, Queen Paola, Princess Astrid and Prince Laurent attended the annual Te Deum service of thanksgiving at Brussels Cathedral on the occasion of King’s Day. As is the custom, the reigning monarch, Filip, King of Belgians, did not attend.
A modest crowd had gathered outside the cathedral to greet the royals. Inside several members of the federal government including Prime Minister De Croo had already taken their seats. Luc Terlinden, the Archbishop of Mechelen and Brussels led the service proposing dialogue, respect and solidarity as the appropriate answers to violence.
“Justice among nations and peoples starts with a fair division of riches and natural resources” the Roman Catholic archbishop noted.
