The announcement was made at a press conference in Ghent on Tuesday morning. Speaking at the press conference Ms Van den Bossche said that if elected she will use her position as a federal MP to defend progressive view on ethical issues such as euthanasia and abortion. Mr Rousseau said that as a member of the Flemish Parliament he will above all focus on education.

Ms Van den Bossche also intends to play a prominent role in next October’s local council elections. She has been given fourth place on the joint liberal/socialist list in her home city of Ghent. During Tuesday morning’s press conference, Ms Van den Bossche was keen to stress her commitment to local issues in Ghent.
