He told VRT Radio 2 that “At around 11:30am yesterday two thieves came into the bakery through the side door. My wife was in the shop with our staff and I was working in the bakery. The thieves, a man and a woman, went into the kitchen and started nosing around in my wife’s handbag”.

When Stijn’s wife left the shop for a moment she came face to face with the burglars. "They started shouting and as I heard the commotion I ran to see what as going on. The two thieves tried to escape, but I dragged them back in. I shut them in the kitchen and my wife called the police”.

“The police were here after 5 minutes. The police officers searched the two thieves and they found tools for breaking in inside the woman’s handbag. We also gave CCTV footages of them to the police”.

Jens Van den Troost of the KASTZE Local Police Service confirms that the two thieves were taken to the police station for questioning. They are known to have comitted several thefts.

It was not the first time that Stijn had been visited by burglars. "The previous time was 15 years ago, but it’s not something that you forget. Then they were standing next to our bed. The difference is that this time we caught them and that they have been detained”, Stijn told the VRT.
