The Belgian national men’s football team coach Domenico Tedesco (photo, above) has named his squad for the forthcoming friendly game against Serbia on 15 November and the final European Championship qualifying match against Azerbaijan on 19 November.
The injured Jan Vertonghen has been named in the squad as have Vermeeren, Vranckx and Saelemaekers who are making their return to the national team. Speaking on Friday morning Domenico Tedesco said that "There are some question marks, that is why I have opted for a big squad". 26 rather than the usual 24 players have been selected.
Speaking about the injured Jan Vertonghen, Tedesco said that he won’t be available for Wednesday’s friendly "But we have to wait and see whether he is fit to play against Azerbaijan."
The national team coach is keeping his options open as to who should replace Vertonghen if he is unable to play. Zeno Debast and Zinho Vanheusden are options as indeed is Bologna’s Alexis Saelemaekers, who is making his return to the national team.
In midfield, Arthur Vermeeren is in the squad after time after coming on as a substitute last month. Aster Vranckx is also back despite the difficult season he is having at Wolfsburg.
Charles De Ketelaere is missing from the squad. He has been sidelined due to a "minor knee injury".
